Search Engine Optimization Reflection

Search Engine Optimization is really useful because it helps people to find your posts on the web. I believe it is something necessary when doing a webpage or blog. These tags help minimize the effort of getting known in the internet world. You can see in some of the posts that there are some key words used in order for it to be recognized by the internet. Simple words such as George Orwell the author, Big Brother, the name of the book 1984, and others. When you have more tags you have more chances of recognition increases. I think that word tags makes your work easier.
considering the fact that there are millions of website for topics like 1984. Probably our website isn’t the first since it is new, it is wordpress, and people haven’t subscribe nor follow our blog. In spite of those obstacles, our blog is still found in the internet. Eventually, people will start following our blog to enjoy and learn from Big Brother. I learned from these task experience many things in addition to creating my first webpage basically and it will help me in future assignments such as the ones that I will receive in college.

How have you used SEO and tags to help search engines locate your blog?

Search Engine Optimization ( SEO for short) is the process of affecting the visibility of a website or a web page in a search engine’s “natural” or un-paid search results. Basically being the first website in Google or other search engines. That is a really difficult task considering the fact that many websites pay hundred of dollars to be in that position. The tags in WordPress help minimize the effort of getting known in the internet world. In these blogs of 1984, some obvious tags include “1984”, “George Orwell”, “Big Brother”, among others. Whenever someone searches for that specific word, the chances of being first increase since that is the exact word tagged. Usually, in each post, more than 15 tags won’t increase the chances. It is better to have 5-10 word tags in order to be efficient. Also, I didn’t used tags like “cute cats”, “ SWAG ”, “Basic white chicks” or “ Miley Cyrus twerking” in order to trap viewers to simply get more views in my blog.

SEO and tags really help in the location of the blog, considering the fact that there are millions of website for topics like 1984. Probably our website isn’t the first since it is new, it is wordpress, and people haven’t subscribe nor follow our blog. In spite of those obstacles, our blog is still found in the internet. Eventually, people will start following our blog to enjoy and learn from Big Brother.

How have you used SEO and tags to help search engines locate your blog?

The search engine optimisation (or SEO) has been very useful for my site since it allows others to read my blogs. Since our blogs are about George Orwell’s outstanding novel, 1984, I thought that tagging the book’s name and its author (in all of my blog prompts) is a clever way for people to read what I wrote.

Another ‘strategy’ I used with SEO was tagging the topics that mostly feature in my blogs. For example, in one of my blogs I wrote about a global warming article in Newspeak language. Since both global-warming and Newspeak are topics that appear in that blog, I tagged both words so that my blogs would appear and be noticeable in the web.

The best way for being visible in the internet is to use tags. I felt it was an arduous task for people to read your blog because of the internet’s immensity, but once you make good use of SEO you’ll get better chances of people visiting your website!

How have you used SEO and tags to help search engines locate your blog?

Search engine optimization mostly known as SEO is the process of affecting the visibility of a website in a search engine’s “natural” or “organic” (not paid for) search results.
It was a great tool for our blog because it help us to make our blog easier to find, we tried to use as many tags as we could, tags that are the most common in relation to our theme, that way our blog would be more visited. I think we did a great job , because we already have some visits even though our blog was made a few days ago. It is interest to learn how tags and SEO works, because for example in Instagram I knew that my photos will get more likes depending on the tags that I used, but I didn’t knew that blogs worked the same way. A few years ago we do a similar project , we had to created a blog and put posts every two weeks about what we learned in class but we never include tags in our blogs because we didn’t knew that they were needed but now that we know , next time if we need to do something like this, it will be easier for us. So it was a great experience to have the opportunity to share our thoughts and opinions of this great book.

In what ways has Orwell’s vision of a dystopian future come true?

There is a famous quote that says: “ Humans are becoming slaves to their own creations”. Obviously, those “creations” is just a fancy way of saying technology. We have phones, tablets, televisions, computers and many other wonderful inventions that make our lives easier. We also have cameras in the street that record our actions. We have teaching devices in our phones that show our exact position in the globe. So a question comes to mind, are we slaves in this world?

Obviously, we are slaves to our governments and to this world and, obviously, Orwell was right in his Big Brother theory ( 1984). We live in a society were we have to work everyday in order to survive. That, in a very direct way, makes us slaves to that job. We follow the laws imposed to us that our ancestors made, that, as well, makes us slaves to our governments. If that is not enough, we have phones that supposedly gives us freedom and those phones have tracking devices that allow the government to locate us at any specific place and they can even see what we have searched.

“We are free to do what we want”, at least, that is what we think. . The reality is simple the contrary. Orwell tried to warn us when he wrote the dystopian novel back in 1948. He tried to warn us from the famously known ‘Big Brother’ and the other atrocities that came with him. 60 years later, everything he stated has become true. Even the part of “ I love Big Brother”, the last sentence of the novel, is still present. A survey stated that 56% of Americans were in favor of that “Big Brother”. It appears as if politicians and leaders have used 1984 as a manual or guide. Our governments have created a doublethink nature in each of us. They say that spying on us is simply for our own sake, that it is a way of assuring that everyone is safe. Even though we know that is a clear violation of our, supposedly real, freedom we still agree with them. At the end Orwell’s idea is correct, “ Freedom is Slavery”.

What specifically is Orwell warning us against, and how does he achieve this?

What is dystopia? Dystopia is a place where the government, the laws, citizens and the life is a disaster, where there is no happiness, it is all the opposite of utopia, that is a perfect place to live. 1984 is Orwell’s idea of a dystopia and with it, he warns us of all the dangers that exist in a totalitarianism city. You may think how does he warn us? Well at first, one of all the major themes you can find out in the book 1984 is “newspeak” and how they use it for reducing our  language, because by controlling what everyone can and can’t said, they can control their lives. Even now at days you make think that this has no importance but of course it does, because even now when you think you are free to said whatever you want, the reality is the you can’t, our parents, teachers and authorities control most of the things we can and can’t said, we have to use a different choice of words depending with whom we are. He tries to achieve his warning by demonstrating how a manipulated community would be, because he was communist he could see and realize how a totalitarian government really is. He is preoccupied of how this era would be, because if the government continues in the way they are, I mean, being so corrupted, the world will become a disaster. This book is almost like a long propaganda, where he wrote an overview of the hopeless nature of system, that they all had in those times with the hope that in the future it would be different.

Is Winston’s belief applicable to the world we live in today?

The statement about “spirit of man defeating the oppressive state of the Party” is very vigorous. I agree with Winston’s phrase because the only thing that can overcome an overbearing power is the spirit that each and everyone of us has. Our words, actions, and even thoughts can be corrupted, but our spirit or soul will remain intact because that is the only thing we, human beings, will never lose. The perseveration that is inside of us is strong enough to undermine a government that proclaims injustices and segregation among society.

This belief is applicable to the world we live in today because the spirit has always prevailed in us, human beings. The years might pass, the social injustices might continue, but the spirit of man will always reign. For example, the way Mahatma Gandhi defied war and anarchy with love is an example that the spirit is the strongest thing a human being can ever embraced. During Gandhi’s time, World War II was emerging. India was a country handicapped by violence and anarchy due to this devastating war, but Gandhi, even after his death, has proved us, human beings, that our spirit is strong enough to undermine a controlling society.

Another example that supports Winston’s belief is the speech of Martin Luther King Jr. at the Lincoln Memorial in 1963. Since the African-American society was wounded by racial injustices because of the ambiguity the government expressed regarding the topic, Martin Luther decided to overcome these injustices by embracing his perseverant spirit. He defended his ideology to the very end of his life due to the fact that he used his spirit in order to defeat the racial society of that time.

At the end of the day, the human spirit will prevail succeed against the social injustices and oppressive governments.
